Cars 2-4 were designed for businessmen wanting fast travel on cross-country trunk main lines on the Great Western Railway.
The cars included a kitchen, cafe and lavatories along with 44 seats.
Powered by 2 AEC 130 HP diesel engines the trains could reach over 80mph, with typically faster average speeds than the steam express trains in 1934, when the units were introduced.
One unit survives and is preserved at the NRM York.
